The award winning documentary Peace Out will show in Sooke on Wed Feb 8th at Edward Milne Community School Theatre, 6218 Sooke Rd. Q&A hosted by Fabio Wilkinson (one of the filmmakers), Ben Parfitt (Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives), and local MLA, John Horgan. 7 p.m. Admission by donation to the Peace Valley Environment Association. Peace Valley Environment Association as well as the groups we’ve coordinated with received the funding requested to participate in the EA. We still have alot of fundraising to do to get through this, but it’s a start.

This is to invite you to Peace Out, a new feature documentary film about the Peace River region by acclaimed Canadian director, author & educator Charles Wilkinson (Down Here, Crash, The Working Director). Peace Out won “Most Popular Canadian Documentary” at the 2011 Vancouver International Film Festival. Here’s a bit more info:
Peace Out asks and attempts to answer the question: are we ripping up our back yard for energy – or not? The film seeks to engage with those of us who do not connect our daily decisions with global land use issues. It focuses on the northwestern Canadian wilderness; however, the issues are universal. The film listens without judgement to energy company executives, oil sands representatives, nuclear spokesmen as well as scientists, academics and activists. It is an intelligent debate that recognizes economic and political reality as well as the longer term issues.

It avoids the ‘good guy vs bad guy’ approach that much of the discussion often defaults to. Peace Out leaves it to the viewer to decide what to believe.

The film presents a beautiful, thought provoking look at a rapidly
transforming landscape.

PRRD Area C Director requests formal designation of fort sites on Peace River

Area C Director, Arthur Hadland wrote a letter to the federal minister of the environment requesting him to consider a formal designation to preserve and protect two early trading fort sites on the Peace River which will be flooded if Site C is approved.
