Two articles have recently come out in the Vancouver Sun which definitely need replies…

Northeast transmission line would create ‘energy corridor’ that could boost our clean power exports, Liberals say” by Vaughn Palmer on February 16th, 2010.

Unfortunately, he did not mention the hypocrisy of the government’s clean energy rhetoric when that same clean energy is being used to accelerate fossil fuel extraction in the Horn River Basin which will ultimately be destined for the Alberta Oil Sands.

and

Energy minister’s commitment” by Blair Lekstrom on February 17th, 2010.

With respect to electricity trade, one can go to the data provided by BC Stats to see the real story. Data from BC Stats clearly shows that BC was a net exporter of electricity for 7 out of the last 10 years, ending in 2008. BC Hydro and apparently Minister Lekstrom appear to be quoting only BC Hydro’s trade data in what seems to be an effort to convince BC citizens that there is more of a need for energy then there actually is. This quoted trade data does not include the other BC companies that also trade in electricity. All of BC’s electricity trade needs to be taken into consideration for a more true picture of where BC stands.
