Dear PVEA Supporters,

Thank you for your on-going support as we work to protect the Peace River Valley and stop Site C dam. I know that people are wondering about the Site C EA and the upcoming hearings, so following is some information I hope you will find helpful…

Where are we at right now?
We are now into the 3rd and final phase of the environmental assessment on Site C – the Joint Review Panel stage.

The Joint Review Panel (JRP) is presently developing the procedures that will be followed during the hearings on Site C. They submitted Draft Hearing Procedures which the public just finished submitting comments on and a final hearing procedures document is expected soon.

What will the hearings be like?
To get a better understanding of what the hearings on Site C will involve, please take a look at the Draft Hearing Procedures, here:

When will the hearings take place?

At this time, we don’t know exactly when the hearings will take place. They are anticipated to commence either in November, or possibly January. To our knowledge there will be 30 days of hearings.

When and how do I register for the hearings?

Shortly after the JRP has finalized the procedures for the hearings, they will announce that the opportunity to register for the hearings has commenced. I will send out notification to all PVEA members when this opportunity arises.

Where will the hearings take place?

At this time, we only know that the Panel has proposed to open the hearings in Fort St. John. We have asked that hearings take place elsewhere in the province including, Hudson’s Hope, Dawson Creek, local First Nations’ communities, Prince George, Vancouver, Victoria, and in each of the Kootenay and Okanagan regions of BC.

Do you have any advice on how to prepare for the hearings?

PVEA’s legal team is preparing and information sheet with suggestions as to how best prepare your oral and/or written submissions for the hearings. I will share this with all of you when it becomes available.
