Each year, at the end of September, the PVEA celebrates BC Rivers’ Day with a Wooden Boat Race on the majestic Peace River.

Join us, or if you’re from afar – sponsor a little wooden boat – at PVEA’s celebration of the Peace River.

Saturday, September 24, 2016, noon-3

Bear Flat on the Hudson’s Hope Highway 29, approx. 30 km from Fort St. John. Look to the left and you will see a large, red kayak-shaped ‘Paddle for the Peace’ sign – enter the hayfield there and follow the road to the river’s edge.

How do I get a boat to sponsor?
Sponsor a wooden boat for $10 from the PVEA:
– Get one at the Fort St. John Farmer’s Market,
Saturday, September 17th; or,
– Email peacevalleyenv@gmail.com to make arrangements to have one set aside in your name; or,
– Call Ruth Ann Darnall 250-785-2105; or,
– Show up at 12:00 p.m. and get one at the event

Your name will be recorded with the boat you sponsor.
If you wish, you can take a boat home to paint (these are small, wooden boats) – paint it yourself or let your kids have fund painting them!

How much does it cost?
The sponsorship for each boat is $20.

How does the event work?
All boats will be released at 12:30 p.m. upriver from the hayfield near Bear Flat.
Watch the boats as they come downriver to the hayfield.
Bring your lunch including something to roast at the campfiire.

1st Place: An outdoor family portrait session with PVEA photographer, Don Hoffmann; or a plaque mount of his famous “Keeper of the Peace” picture.

2nd and 3rd Places: A box of assorted ‘Products from the Peace’

This is a critical year to gather together and show that we want to protect the Peace River Valley – one of the only remaining, relatively ‘untouched’ areas in northeast BC. We look forward to having you join us! 🙂
